DOUBLE K REMASTERED - PAGE 017 by captainosaka DOUBLE K REMASTERED - PAGE 017 by captainosaka
EDIT: I think folks were right about LANTERN JAW, didn't work in a head-on shot. Luckily i was able to sneak in an edit RIGHT under the wire and still have it hit print.

This one IS my favorite out of all the remasters, for a lot of reasons. I liked the layout of the original, but the rendering was just too sloppy and busy for it really to be effective. Now that it's all clean and crisp, it's a lot more readable and I feel like the eye is naturally drawn down the page the way I intended it to be.

Kamina's pose in the original was always a disappointment to me; it was supposed to be so much more majestic and iconic! I mean, it's the GUNBUSTER POSE!! I think I sold it better in the revised version. You at least get the sense that his jacket is blowing dramatically in the wind instead of whatever the hell it's doing in the original.

Lastly, a small but crucial detail - that final text bubble of Kamina's got cut off in the initial print job thanks to it being so low on the page. Rank amateur mistake. I pay really close attention to print guides and bleed areas and all that shit now, let me tell you.

I WILL RETURN WITH MORE. Remember, books are showin' up on AUGUST 20th. THANKS DUDEZ

You really made the style your own in the revision. It went from anime to your patented, tried-and-true form! Definitely adds consistency. I hope I can pick one of these books up!

yo, i remember when you put these out.
i think both styles look just as good as each other, i just wanna point that out.
in some cases i prefer the old, in some i prefer the new.
it's cool to see how you've changed, my friend!

Hmmmm, not really digging the new blockish art style, with no good line thickness difference. It reminds me of how robotic the Simpsons art style has gotten and it looks too Scott Pilgrim-y. Ah well.

Dude, the style sure changed since you started. It looks better now. Good Work!

Honestly though, it's good that you're putting the remastered pages out. I guess it'd be more marketable for you to simply show the first five pages or so before saying you can get the rest when you buy the books. Then again I'm not exactly an entrepreneur and you're not exactly doing this for the money.

Gunbuster is one of the best things to come out of the 80s for sure.

I've been loving the remasters on the whole, but this one just seems...meh.

Mostly because of Kamina's chin. I mean, it just doesn't look like Kamina anymore.

The original pose was way better.

/it's weird how life is
//this is one of the remasters you like the most
///and then every other comment is like 'meh'

Two more pages until my absolute favorite panels...

Love Double K, and I've been loving the remasters, but I just can't like this one. The Kamina Gunbuster pose was one of my favorites in the whole comic, and the new one just feels wrong. It feels like the style suddenly shifted from anime to budgeted western animation. So... streamlined, I guess. I hate how streamlined it looks. And I think Kamina might actually look TOO buff? I guess his shoulders and chest just look to crazy big to me.
